Predictable Books Facebook Group has 2 Admins! Trish & I would love to hear from you! Please share this link,Predictable Bookswith your friends! This group is dedicated to sharing, discussing, and discovering predictable books—those magical, repetitive, patterned stories that boost motor planning, confidence, and participation in therapy and at home. Here you’ll find: lists of the best predictable books for SSD & apraxia….with your input!! Ideas for therapy activities, extension tasks, and adaptations
My 9 Favorite EBP Speech Strategies That Work . I wanted to simplify terminology of all the varied approaches! It can get overwhelming at times - it is not cookie cutter either. Every child has different needs. I utilize a variety of techniques and assess ongoing progress. As a therapist, it's crucial for me to explain a child’s motor speech disorder to parents & staff in a way that’s easy to understand—KISS (Keep It Simple SLP”s!). Ricki’s personal comments are included with each strategy. In addition, Ricki’s Speech Motor Block has been added
I WOULD LOVE EVERYONE’S FEEDBACK ABOUT 1 OF THE STRATEGIES INCLUDED IN MY 9 FAVORITE SPEECH STRATEGIES - THE COMPLEXITY APPROACH by Judith A Gierut. The classic Complexity Approach predicts that treating a more complex structure (e.g., /spr/) should generalize "downward" to simpler structures (e.g., /pr/). They also used many words the child didn’t know (12 studies met inclusion criteria- based on single subject experimental designs) However, the actual research findings for 3-element clusters have been much less robust than many presentations imply. Reading further into the study, variable and inconsistent generalization to untreated 2-element clusters were noted, with outcomes depending on the child's existing phonological inventory.
BOTTOM LINE - I modified this approach and included 2-element clusters plus 3-element clusters. I think the repetition of common “ME” (meaningful) words is valuable, especially for CAS and early language. I choose words patterns that have a successful outcome (always doing stimulability test first), e.g. ST, SN -works for cluster reduction, frication, easy transition to L eventually. Provides a stable elevated tongue posture utilizing the motor planning principles, which can sometimes outweigh the linguistic complexity.
UGH! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, I DON’T THINK I HAVE EVER FOLLOWED 1 SPECIFIC STRATEGY COOKBOOK STYLE. WHEN I AM COOKING, EG. I ALWAYS HAVE TO ADD SOMETHING THAT’S NOT IN THE RECIPE!!
Ricki’s Speech Motor Blocks - connect all the blocks - integrate Foundation, Building, Support and Connection Blocks.
SPEECH MOMENTS - This is the perfect time to reorganize! I added 10 more new and gently used toys in my RESELL SHOP. In the FREEBIES, I have also included my presentation PowerPoint for the International Apraxia Conference in May.
FOLD N GO CATEGORIES & VOCABULARY is my newest resource. Click Here for short video to show how the FOLD N GO works. Pics are also awesome to use with FEED ME activities with Burping Bobby, Pop the Pig, Nuby monster, DIY tissue box, etc.
