Ricki’s Speech Motor Blocks - connect all the blocks! I’m presenting an online workshop for Apraxia International on December 15!

‍ My MOTOR SPEECH BLOCKS APPROACH has been a passionate project of mine for 50 years since I first created The Apraxia CV-CVCV Kit in 1980 (242 pics). It worked then and it continues to successfully help my students, with little tweeks here and there. Every child is unique! My new set has 450 mini pictures which is a supplement to the original set.   Every effort has been  made to keep the vocabulary simple and functional for children exhibiting a motor speech disorder.  I am sharing my first student who benefited from this set in 1980 (first 2 pics on left) and a few samples in the set! Ever since I have been an SLP, my love for books and toys (especially magnet blocks) continues to grow and incorporated into many sessions. I still can’t resist buying toys! I love using magnet blocks with this set - you can attach pics to the blocks and kids can “snap” them together. Click on image for link to RICKI’S SPEECH MOTOR BLOCKS. Coming soon will be a Part #2 - Mini CVC, Multisyllables and Clusters. The CVC-VC Apraxia Set (62 pages) is on TPT too! ‍

Building Multisensory Play in Apraxia Therapy with Favorite Toys and Games

Ricki will demonstrate her Motor Speech Block Strategies. After 50 years of experience as an SLP, Ricki Block-SLP, specializes in Apraxia and SSD. She brings a practical, hands-on approach to Apraxia therapy that puts engaging PURPOSEFUL PLAY to work. She owned a specialty toy store for 22 years. Ricki will demonstrate how toys, games, and adapted predictable books can provide meaningful opportunities for Principles of Motor learning, modeling, purposeful repetition and functional communication while incorporating multisensory cues. Speech motor techniques and thoughtful target selection for CV, VC, CVCV, words will be provided utilizing activities which keep children motivated. Suggested follow through ideas are included for families. You may already have the materials you need.....learn how they can become powerful tools for children with Apraxia. Bring your toy and game ideas and questions too!

DR. PEGGY EARNEST will be speaking as well - her topic will be Down Syndrome - Peggy has a PhD from the University of CT. She has over 25 years of experience in improving the speech and communication skills of nonverbal, minimally verbal and highly unintelligible pediatric patients. She believes that speech and language therapy plans should be highly individualized and that her job is to treat the whole child. Family involvement and collaboration are of the utmost importance to a child’s progress in therapy.

Peggy has a specialty in treating motor speech disorders, which include dysarthria of speech, childhood apraxia of speech and motor speech delays. She also has a special interest in treating speech sound disorders using various techniques, including ultrasound biofeedback.

SPEECH MOMENTS - I can finally see well everyone! The Lasik surgery was a success! Two more weeks of recovery! Halloween was pretty quiet. I did put together sticker bags for the kids….NO CANDY!! Now I’m gearing up for Thanksgiving. Three of my favorite stories is Turkey Trouble, To Market To Market and No Food for Turkey - A Motor Speech Story on Boom Learning
