HALLOWEEN EDITION AND FREEBIES!

**Hi All! It’s MONSTER WEEK! SPATIAL CONCEPT CHART FREE FOR 2 DAYS ONLY! (SEE LINK BELOW UNDER FREEBIES)** I just love kids’ reactions to activities this time every year! The Monsters Jumping on the Bed rhyme was perfect for assessing spatial concepts! I love using the Super Duper phone with this activity. I have this big toy bed when I used a large doll house. You can assess concepts 2 ways - 1. hide a monster, e.g. under the bed and ask child to find monster *under*, etc or 2. have child hide monster *under* the bed. *Where did you hide monster*? You want to assess understanding AND word retrieval. For spatial concepts big pieces of toy furniture or the play environment work well! Parents can follow through with spatial concepts at home too- I like to suggest 2 concepts at a time - I don’t do IN and ON together because they sound so similar and kids often get confused. After assessment, Whatever concept I work on, I teach the skill first in at least 3 trials. I also use spatial concepts for increasing linguistic complexity of sentences, including more critical elements. An example of a linguistically complex sentence would be …. Put the blue monster with 3 eyes under the bed (3 critical elements) I created a spatial concepts checklist which is a fav right now. I date and color code when child knows the concept. Yellow dot paint is used for the initial date. Thank you ALL! I do my best to stay positive but this has been one heck of a week! Bucky, our Siberian Forest Cat somehow snuck out of the house when a client came in for Speech and was missing for 32 hours! We put up his picture in the neighborhood, registered on the Ring missing pets service and searched for him everywhere. Luckily at 10:00 at night a neighbor spotted him and we found him!! Also, we have 2 relatives who live in Israel - Telaviv and Carmiel-I pray for them every day Anyway , wishing everyone good health and be safe!
